Say No To Violence. Say Goodbye To Gang Culture

CFYDC

Community Tackle It Project has been developed by CYDC with input from the local community who want to break the cycle of violence and gang culture. A key aspect of the project is to provide intensive support and accommodate young people, their families and the communities in which they live by engaging and building a positive, trusting relationship, identifying what barriers are present and providing support to overcome these whilst working towards a positive future for everyone.

The Community Tackle It Project has been running for nearly 2 years and has made a substantial impact both in the local community and across the city of Leeds. The project has been developed by CYDC with input from the local community to de-glorify criminality and break the cycle of violence and gang culture.

The Community Tackle It Project engages with young people that have been identified as involved in or on the periphery of crime and gang activity, young people and families who have been a victim of gang or criminal activities. During this time 121 work, as well as group work is done with each individual in order to support them to make better informed choices.

The Community Tackle Project predominantly works with children and young adults aged 8 to 19 years old. However, in special circumstances we do work with Children younger than 8 and adults over the age of 19.

As part of the Community Tackle It Project a number of teenagers have become 'Young Leaders'. The 'Young Leaders' form a base in which they undertake a wide range of tasks that help and support the community, other young people and themselves.

Those part of the 'Young Leaders' will undertake the ILM qualification which will enable them to complete a managerial qualification, gain valuable experience that can be implemented in their working lives.

The 'Young Leaders' want to help and lead other young people down the right path. Through taking part they are gaining the skills and knowledge necessary to do so. Young Leaders love to guide and inspire others with the community at the heart of everything they do.

'Young Leaders' vary in age with the oldest currently being 18 years old, so have the diversity to speak and engage with both younger and older children and adolescents, without them feeling judged or threatened.
